The Crest of HMAS Nirimba

Schofields is located on the abandoned Royal Australian Navy Base HMAS Nirimba. Prior to the Navy taking possession it was an RAAF Aerodrome.
Motor Racing enjoyed a brief period here in the late 50's when the Navy temporarily decommissioned the base.
Racing ended when the Navy restored the base to full operations in 1959.

Map of the Schofields Aerodrome with the Racing Circuit outlined in red.
As none of the corner names are known to me I've roughly marked the position of each photograph with a letter.

The area of the Start Finish line. The condition of the circuit as a whole is terrible.
Soon it will all be gone as developers seem to be sizing it up.
The Runway/Main Straight is swallowed up here by Sporting Fields.
At the other side of the Fields the track resumes.
But isn't in much shape as you can see.
A tad further along this lovely sweeper takes us onto the back stretch.
On the back straight. The derelict main hangers of the old base are on the right.
Taxiways join from the left a bit further on.
Another lovely sweeper.
Takes us pass the site of the old Schofields Flying Club (The grove of tree's on the right)
I have bad memories of this dispersal bay.
As a young Cadet I was blown clean off my feet here by a Taxiing DC3.
Much to the Pilots amusement...
I wasn't very amused myself as the resulting tumble completely destroyed my best uniform.
A lovely series of bends start to take us back to the main straight.
A short blast into what would've been a nice double apex.
Sweeper that takes us across.
The top of the other runway.
Still sweeping left.
Another quick blast.
And it is time to line the car up.
For the tight left hander onto the main straight.
And they complain Sepang is too wide these days!
Here we cross the intersecting runway to complete the lap.
